CBSS proudly presents participation in the “Science in Passing” event!

On International Women’s Day 2025, March 8th, our member Iva Čupić joined inspiring female scientists who shared their research with the public. “Science in Passing” is dedicated to promoting women in science, and Iva spoke about the fascinating world of subterranean ecosystems and the importance of invertebrates.

What did Iva discuss?

Invertebrates are often overlooked in conservation, yet they form the foundation of ecosystems. Their diversity isn’t just a natural treasure – it maintains the stability of entire ecosystems! The underground world, with its unique conditions, harbors delicate ecosystems rich in endemic species. Studying these organisms provides insights into evolutionary processes and helps us understand how external factors impact ecological changes. Without knowledge of the species within these systems, effective protection is impossible.

“To preserve the ecosystems we depend on, we must start by understanding the species within them” – Iva emphasized.
